November 20th is a significant day to plan 'A Better Future for Every Child.'

November 20th is World Children's Day (WCD). It was first established in 1954 and is celebrated each year. The UNICEF states that, through WCD, it aims to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improve children's welfare.

This date is important because it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of Rights of the Child. It also is the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The UN states that "mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making WCD relevant for their societies, communities and nations." It offers us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote, and celebrate children's rights, that will build a better future for us all.

For WCD, UNICEF began a #GoBlue campaign, to highlight the rights of children and to talk about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the lives of children. Taking part in it, some countries including India illuminated its iconic monuments with blue lights.

The theme for WCD 2021 is 'A Better Future for Every Child.' It urges children and young people to raise their voices on an issue that matter to their generation and also calls adults to understand and contribute towards creating a better future.

WCD is UNICEF's annual day of action for children, by us children. It is the chance for us to plan and reimagine a better world, not only for us but also for the next generations.
