Soi dog foundation's plan to solve Pattaya’s stray dog problem

By: Joanna, Year 11
Stray dogs are a common sight in many parts of Thailand, including Pattaya. These dogs often suffer from malnutrition, disease, and injuries, and their population can quickly spiral out of control if left unchecked, leaving only two realistic solutions to the problem: sterilization and euthanasia. By providing free sterilization services, the SOI DOG Foundation hopes to address this issue and improve the lives of both stray and owned dogs in the community.
Established in Phuket in 2003, the Soi Dog Foundation is committed to improving the lives of stray dogs and cats. With approximately 70,000 stray animals on Phuket Island alone, the foundation plays a vital role in addressing this issue. They have been strong proponents of sterilization as a primary method to control and decrease the number of stray animals in the area. They plan to expand their sterilization operations to east Pattaya.
The sterilization service offered by the foundation is safe, humane, and performed by experienced veterinary professionals. Each day, the foundation sterilizes 40 dogs, equally divided between stray dogs and house pets. The procedure involves surgically removing the reproductive organs of the dog to prevent it from reproducing. This not only helps control the population of stray dogs but also has health benefits for the individual dog, reducing the risk of certain diseases and behavioral issues.
In addition to offering free sterilization services, the SOI DOG Foundation also provides vaccinations, medical treatment, and care for sick and injured dogs. They work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate stray dogs, providing them with a second chance at a happy and healthy life. The foundation also works to educate the public about responsible pet ownership and the importance of sterilizing their pets to prevent unwanted litters.
The SOI DOG Foundation relies on donations and support from the community to continue their important work. By offering free sterilization services in Pattaya, they are making a significant impact on the welfare of dogs in the area and helping to create a more compassionate and responsible community.
If you are a dog owner in Pattaya or know of a stray dog in need of sterilization, we encourage you to contact the SOI DOG Foundation for more information on their free sterilization services. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of dogs in Thailand and create a more humane and sustainable future for all.
