EXPO 2020: An Opportunity to Reshape the Future

What are the benefits of this 182-day event?

What was the Expo 2020? Despite being postponed due to COVID, Dubai has fully opened the very first ever Expo. The exhibition site hosting the event stretches across three different thematic sections: Sustainability, Opportunity, and Mobility. The campus allows the participating countries to convey the offers they have that could potentially change the world and the way people live together through the different pavilions.

Sustainability. The countries representing sustainability are Brazil, Czech Republic, Singapore, Germany and the Netherlands. Inside this section, the pavilions allow the opportunity to experience the Brazilian sounds, scents and sights, enter an integrated climate system that harvests energy, water and food, venture through an indoor forest, see inventions like solar powered concrete, and so much more.

In the opportunity district you will see the pavilions of the UK, Ukraine, Monaco, Switzerland and Malawi. Those who enter will have the ability to explore an interactive structure illuminated by words and phrases, hiking through a Swiss environment standing, on top of an alp with real fog, and travel through the maze-like streets of the French riviera.

The last district is mobility, which includes Russia, Australia and the Republic of Korea. There visitors can view the beauty of the stars, learn up to about 60,000 years of astronomy, get a taste of the national cuisine and watch the place light up at night whilst taking a walk through a mobile guided trail.

But is it just this year? Surprisingly, no. The Ferris wheel, Eiffel tower and the Crystal building were all showcased during a version of the Expo and while the name has changed over time, the quality of the items showcased has all consistently been a huge success.

Overall, the stunning architecture alone could tempt you into exploring buildings and learning about their remarkable cultures. Some countries may seem more imaginative or have more interactive activities than others, but each one of them has something to showcase in their contribution to making the world a better place.

As the Expo goes on, Dubai continues to outdo itself in the extravagance of the events that they produce. With one of the biggest events being a fundraiser for the Al Noor Rehabilitation & Welfare Association, hosted by the eight-time Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt. The athlete took part in a 1.45-kilometer family run (which had been opened for public participation) and competed with hundreds of runners and sport-loving students.

Other events such as the uniting of the UAE and Brazil in an attempt to achieve a new Guinness World Record for the largest Jiu-jitsu lesson and the live performances of K-pop group sensations such as BTOB, Luminous, and La Boum will take over the screens with virtual shows.

If you have no plans for the Christmas holidays go check it out before it's too late! The last day you can visit this site is the 31st of March 2022.

What do you think will be the next big thing?
