Elon Musk’s Tesla Bots and the Future Onwards

This article explores the possibilities of what life would be like with robots and Tesla’s announcement of their robots.

A few months back, Elon Musk announced the release of Tesla’s next endeavor: the Tesla Bot. Tesla is known for its electric and self-driving cars, so it’s peculiar that they’ve decided to make robots. The Tesla bot comes in at 5’8 and weighs 56kgs’. Robots are to replace physical labor from humans in the coming years. As stated by Elon musk, the bot “eliminates dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks.”. It makes sense as Tesla bots can carry up to 45lbs or deadlift 150lbs. Maybe you are worried about the strength of the Tesla bots. Don’t be. They have designed it so that “At a physical level you can run away from it…and most likely overpower it, as stated by Elon Musk. The possibilities are still there, yet the concerns are low due to Tesla being a credible company. What would life be like with robots? Will they be open to the public? Are they truly safe?

In photos of the robot, it can be seen with a screen built into where its face would be. Currently, it is used to display information but there could be other possibilities for the screen. If the screen had touchscreen capabilities, would it make them a human-sized smartphone? I doubt robots would replace smartphones in the beginning, but it would be interesting to see someone calling using the robot. You are already beginning to see robots being implemented into aspects of our everyday lives. If AI were to replace physical jobs, would they revolt? It is possible in the future, and it is something that Elon Musk fears. Musk states, “at least when there's an evil dictator, that human is going to die. But for an AI, there will be no death — it would live forever. And then you would have an immortal dictator from which we could never escape.”

The topic of being afraid of AI becoming sentient is very popular. Experts on AI have stated that this is something we shouldn’t be afraid of, merely because development of AI isn’t that fast. As they assured, the time when AI become sentient is far ahead into the future. This concern long stemmed from fear mongering and of the topic itself being overhyped. The philosophy behind AI itself is fascinating. It explores our understanding of what intelligence really is and what determines a conscious. In my opinion, I have some fear, but it wasn’t as strong as before I researched this topic. If robots were sentient, would they have mental states, emotions, and the awareness that humans have? Would AI and Humans think the same? Is the human brain, in essence, a computer?

It is only inevitable for robots to replace ordinary jobs, but there will be new jobs. For example, In San Francisco, there is a restaurant that sells Hamburgers that a robot makes. The order is inputted into the machine. The Hamburger is built as you watch it ride a conveyor belt. In the restaurant, the customers still get served by waiters. When a job gets taken by a robot, it will be likely that additional jobs get created. Most people don’t like AI taking their jobs due to not having the education or opportunity for better jobs. I believe jobs will arise in repairing ai and other things related to ai that won’t require a high-level education. Elon Musk’s Tesla Bots will likely take over construction-related work or labor-related work, confirmed before by Elon. Tesla Bots feel like they’re going to be assistance as it seems that they were designed not to be hyper-intelligent, but I could be jinxing myself.

Robots are inevitably going to progress and get more advanced as humans become more reliant on them. It will be likely that there are going to be safety measures if robots decide to take control. If we are not careless. I think it’s to be expected that robots will likely retain a humanoid shape but design-wise, it will be up to the companies of the future. I believe which companies to follow in Tesla's footsteps are going to be Tech companies, apple, Samsung. Or car companies that have produced self-driving cars. I believe that there will be segregation and discrimination towards robots simply because we humans will feel threatened by them. It’s only speculation that could happen in the next 100 – 200 years. The only best outcome for us is for us to coexist with hyper-intelligent AI or limit how intelligent an AI can get.
