A Letter From the Editors

Dear reader,

Welcome to the second issue of The Student Record!

Our team (which you can say hi to over at the Meet the Masterminds section on the top left-hand side of the screen) have been working incredibly hard this term. With the recent development of being allowed back on campus, our young journalists have faced the challenge of getting all their research, interviews, and writing done in under three weeks. However, journalists are best known for their perseverance, and our team has done an incredible job with meeting deadlines and producing the articulate and well-researched articles that you will read today.

With this issue, we cover a multitude of topics: over on On Campus, we have a comprehensive argument on the mental wellbeing of students by collaborators Suhani and Sreya, an exclusive behind-the-scenes of the the Performing Arts department by Samantha, and thorough coverages about World Children’s Day by Jiwon and the Student Takeover Day by Vladimir, who are guest writers for this issue.

Our International section features new and unexpected research behind the African elephants’ lack of tusks by Atom, a coverage of the revolutionary Nuri rocket from South Korea by Siwon, a paramount showcase on feminism and its history by Charlotte, a thorough analysis on the demise of journalism by Zafirah, and an extraordinary recount of the World Expo 2020 in Dubai by Ava.

The Entertainment section features an inspiring look into Disney’s boundless imagination through the pandemic by Momoko, a thorough explanation of Taylor Swift’s subversive choice to re-record her music by Paloma, a deliberate argument toward blockbuster and modern streaming services by Ren, an insightful analysis on what goes on behind the curtains of the K-pop industry by Rose, and an exciting coverage of the new Teen Wolf movie and what fans can expect.

Over on Sports, we have an in-depth analysis on football club Newcastle United’s ownership and what it means for the future of the Premier League by Jack, an all-inclusive piece on how the deeply divided community of the Indian Subcontinent found a form of peace through the middle ground of cricket by Swarit, and a thorough report on the abuse of steroids in sports by Bartu.

On our Opinion section, we have a deep look into the stereotypes surrounding Disney’s cherished princesses by collaborators Dayoon and Emma, a perceptive and thought-provoking exploration of Elon Musk’s Tesla bots and what that means for the future by Kevin, a saddening piece about the inhumane truth behind dolphin shows by Praew, an observant and thorough argument of ‘Asian Fishing’ and its harmful effects by Jano, and finally, a thought-provoking report on the cruel nature of Zoos by Claire.

If none of these topics interest you, the Fun Page, divided into different subsections, is exactly what it says on the tin: a section dedicated to simply having fun! Under the Puzzle Corner, we have tough crosswords, dingbats, and word searches made by Amy, Bhadra, and Eva for you to try out, and it’s a good chance to gain house points. We also have a new section called The Lounge, which features a multitude of book, movie, and TV show recommendations. On The Student Leadership Team, you can say hi to the student body who work ‘round the clock' to bring forward innovative projects and events to our school. Finally, our Spotlight page features numerous artwork, music, and pieces of literary works by our students and staff.

We hope that you enjoy this Christmas-themed edition of The Student Record. We’re sure that the team has endured enough of us nagging about deadlines to last them an entire lifetime. They have worked incredibly hard and put mounds of effort to produce quality articles for this issue, despite the tight schedules. We appreciate them greatly and sincerely wish that you, as readers, do too.

We wish you a very happy reading!

From,

Vianca & Zafirah (Co-Editors)
